Bonnie Joyce Barnes Dortch

Bonnie was born on June 5, 1950 in Macon, Ga. to the late Albert Lowndes Barnes and the late Betty Joyce Andrews Barnes.Bonnie attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and met her husband, Pete.After graduation, she was an elementary school teacher, having taught at Bleckley County Schools and Baker Academy in Hawkinsville.She was a homemaker and had a love for working with children. Bonnie was a member of Hawkinsville First Baptist Church.Over the years, she led the First Baptist Church Hawkinsville Children's Church, Sunday school and Children's Choir.She also had a heart for missions, starting the Operation Christmas Child Program at First Baptist Church.In 2016, Bonnie started the Food Pantry Mission at Hawkinsville First Baptist Church where she served meals and developed a very strong love for the local citizens that she served.
Bonnie is survived by her husband of almost 49 years, Pete Dortch; her children, Jeff Dortch, Jamie Corona (Greg), and Jill Bloodworth (Steven); her brothers, Matt Barnes (Liz) and George Barnes; her sister-in-law, Naomi Barnes; and several nieces and nephews.
Bonnie was most proud to be "Nonnie" to her seven grandchildren: Gavin Dortch, Abby Corona, William Corona, Anderson Bloodworth, Isaiah Bloodworth, Lowndes Bloodworth and Nolan Bloodworth.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church Hawkinsville's Food Pantry Ministry, First Baptist Church Hawkinsville's Community Missions, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia.
Clark Funeral Home of Hawkinsville, Ga. is in charge of the arrangements.
