Carobel Prince

December 20, 1920 — February 20, 2015

Carobel Cannon Prince, 94, died on February 20, 2015 in Little Rock, Arkansas.Her funeral service will be held Friday, February 27th at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church in Hawkinsville and her burial will follow at Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.Her family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church beginning at 1:00pm prior to the service.

Carobel Prince, a native of Clayton, Georgia, was born December 20, 1920, the daughter of John Henry Cannon, Sr. and Celia Phillips Cannon.Throughout her life she was immensely proud of her North Georgia, Rabun County upbringing and heritage.

Carobel was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters, and she grew up in her parent's Blue Ridge Hotel, which was situated on Main Street in Clayton. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College and State University) in 1941 with a teaching degree.Upon graduation, she became a high school home economics teacher at Lakemont, Georgia and in Hart County, Georgia where she met her future husband Carl Prince.Shortly after they met, Carl was called to service in the Army Air Force during World War II.He and Carobel corresponded frequently, fell in love and decided to marry upon his return from the service.

Carl and Carobel moved in 1948 to Hawkinsville, Georgia where they lived and raised their family.In the mid-1950's Carobel began teaching first grade and ultimately taught generations of first graders in the Pulaski County School System until her retirement. She was active in teacher organizations and served as President of the Pulaski County Education Association.

In her retirement years, she was a committed volunteer Pink Lady at Taylor Regional Hospital where she became a lifetime member.She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville from 1948 until her death and was active in church activities.Her hobbies included a lifetime love of gardening, flowers and all things beautiful.She always had a kind and encouraging word for everyone and was loved by many people.

She is survived by her children Jeannie Prince of Hawkinsville, Georgia, David C. Prince, currently of Little Rock, Arkansas and his wife Mary Prince, three grandchildren Emily, Sara and Rebecca Prince and scores of nieces and nephews.
