Catherine Ann Blanton Sapp, 95, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2010 surrounded by her loving family.Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held August 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, Hawkinsville, Ga. with burial following in Orange Hill Cemetery.Reverend John Walker will officiate.Visitation will be August 11, 2010, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Clark Funeral Home of Hawkinsville, Ga.
Catherine was born in Macon, Ga. on March 2, 1915.Following the deaths of her parents and paternal grandparents, she was placed in the Appleton Church Home for Children.She lived there from the age of 8 until she was 18 years old.Her sterling work ethics and vaules were taught by her family and reinforced by the caring staff at Appleton Home.
Catherine is predeceased by her husband, Joel David Sapp, who died in 1964.Survivors include three daughters: Sherrell (Sid) Cherry of Macon, Ga.; Cathy Stevison of Sandy Springs, Ga. and Davida (Sergio) Valda of LaPaz, Bolivia.She is survived by eight grandchildren: Terry (Donna) Jackson of Macon, Ga.; Joel Minick of Macon, Ga.; Jason (Kari) Stevison of Lawrenceville, Ga.; Sergio Valda of Miami, Fla; Kristy Stevison (Mark) Casey of Sandy Springs, Ga. Gabriel Valda of Los Angeles, CA; Andres Valda of La Paz Bolivia and Stevie Valda of Gainesville, Fla.Other survivors include five great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, six step-step grandchildren, three caring sisters-in-law, fourteen nieces and nephews and many friends.
As a loving mother, Catherine worked tirelessly and unselfishly to provide for her daughters who were the pride and joy of her life.She was a caring grandmother and great-grandmother.Catherine was fun-loving, out-going and never met a stranger.She was a friend to everyone she met.She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor with volumes of memories and stories.She was an accomplished seamstress and spent many hours in volunteer service.
As an active volunteer, Ms. Sapp served the following organizations as a member and as an officer in a variety of positions: Disabled American Veterans, Pulaski County Ladies Auxiliary #6077 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Garment Workers Union - AFLCIO, Pacers Red Hat Club and Parent Organizations and Booster Clubs - Pulaski County School System.
Catherine was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Hawkinsville, Ga. and she loved her church and church members.She taught Sunday School in the Lucille Adams Class for many years.She also taught Sunday School in the children's department and helped with Vacation Bible School and MYF.She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and the circle groups.She served on many committees, such as the Benevolence Committee and Hostess Committee.
