Eleanor Layson Sirmons

Eleanor L. Sirmons, age 89, of Hawkinsville, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday evening August 11, 2023 at Kingsford Place Retirement Home. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Westview Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Teusch officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 1pm to 2pm prior to the service in the sanctuary of Westview Baptist Church.

Mrs. Sirmons was born on October 18, 1933 in Eatonton, Georgia to the late Horace “Gus” Layson and Allie Gearhart Layson. She was a graduate of Putnam County High School and had a 31 year career as a civil servant at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia. Eleanor was a member of the garden club, loved decorating and the Christmas season. Mrs. Sirmons was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Southern Hills Golf & Country Club.  She also enjoyed catering weddings for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawton Sirmons; brothers, H.A. Layson, Van Layson, Wink Layson, Webb Layson, Frank Layson and grandsons, Clay Hogg and J Hogg.

Those left to forever cherish her memory include her son, Ricky Sirmons; daughters, Debbie (Cliff) Savant and Dee (Mark) Monroe; brother, Addison (Connie) Layson; sister, Janie (Winford) Little and 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
