Mr. G. L. Blancett, 87, of Hawkinsville, Ga. passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 at his residence in Hawkinsville.A visitation will be held Friday, February 22, 2019 from 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. in the social hall of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Aaron Brewer and Rev. Dr. Gary Abbott officiating.
Mr. Blancett was a native of Holiday, Texas and a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Hawkinsville, Ga.He was a naval reservist for 12 years; a U.S.P.S. letter carrier for 9 years, U.S.B. P. from 1961-1965; a U. S. Immigration inspector in Buffalo, New York and Toronto, Canada for 28 months; assistant warden of Detention and Deportation facility in El Paso, Texas; Warden of Detention and Deportation facility, El Centro, California.He was head of U. S. Immigration and Deportation in Washington, D. C. from 1976 until his retirement in 1987.From 1993 until 1996, G. L. owned the Old Towne Cat House in Manassas, Virginia. Once he retired fully, he volunteered at Prince William Forest Park.He then spent 3 years traveling the U. S. with his wife in their motor home until settling in Hawkinsville, Ga. in April of 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Loma Mae (Stevens) Blancett; two daughters, Renee Blancett House (Phil) and Jacqueline Blancett Wheeler (Craig); two sons, Michel Lee Blancett, Steven Austin Blancett; seven grandchildren, Juno Camacho, Lono Camacho, Max Wheeler, Nicole Wheeler, Michela Blancett, George Blancett, Joseph Blancett; one great-grandson, Keegan Kopinski.
Visitation will be held at the Blancett residence on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 10 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
