Jack Maurice Rattray, Jr., age 75 of Hawkinsville, GA passed away on March 10, 2024. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Kathy Dawson, daughter, Maria Rattray, son, T.J. Rattray, and granddaughter Archer Rattray, his sisters Sandra Rattray Jones, Rita Rattray Cannon(Carl), brothers-in-law, Gary Dawson(Susan), Rodney Dawson(Gloria), and many nieces and nephews throughout Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack Maurice Rattray, Sr. and Jacques Elise Adams Rattray, father-in-law, John Wesley Dawson, Sr., brother-in-law, John Wesley Dawson, Jr. .
Jack was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, where he was the former chair of the discipleship team and taught Sunday school. He and his wife helped in the preparation of the Lord’s Supper.
Jack was born in Lyons, Georgia on August 29, 1948. Jack grew up in Vidalia, GA, where he attended Vidalia High School. He attended North GA Military and Brewton Parker Jr. College before joining the US Navy and serving as a member of a gunnery team where he learned to scuba dive and load torpedoes on submarines.
Shortly after his four stints in the navy, Jack moved to Athens, GA to become a GA Bulldog fan. He graduated with an agriculture degree. He was a jack of all trades and had over twenty plus years and careers in the communications/IT industry installing IT programs. He was very smart and talented with computers. He worked as an Irrigation Specialist for the GA Soil and Water Conservation, Maintenance for Pulaski State Prison, and was a good carpenter and worked in the home restoration industry for several years.
Jack was an avid reader. He always wanted to learn more and be involved in his community. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, golfing, and attending church. He and Kathy loved traveling, going to the beach, and going to the North Georgia Mountains. Jack was considered a Southern gentleman and was loved by many. His family often consulted Jack on many important issues, knowing he would give serious thought and sound advice.
A funeral service for Jack will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Clark Funeral Home in Hawkinsville. Dr. Don McClung, Tommy Dawson, and Doug Coxwell will officiate. The family will greet friends and family following the service at Clark Funeral Home.
Jack chose contributions to be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or the charity of your choice in his honor.
