James Daniel "Dan" Stephens transitioned from this life to eternal life in Christ Jesus on Friday July 22, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.He was born in Aransas Pass, San Patricio County, Texas on May 6, 1951.
He is survived by his wife, Linda G. Stephens, two sons – Kevin Ray Stephens (Tandra) of Dallas, Texas and Nathan Daniel Stephens of Humble, Texas, a daughter, Stephanie Savage (Bill) of Keymar, Maryland, and a step-son Clint Martin, lll (Dana) of North Augusta, South Carolina.Also surviving are granddaughters Calista Leigh Walden of Macon and Caitie Lynn Willhouse (Damian) of Dexter, Georgia, Lindsay Netzler (Eric), Hannah Martin, Chloe Grace Martin, all of North Augusta, SC, Madisyn Stephens of Trinity, Texas, and grandsons Jason Savage of Keymar, Maryland, and Cody, Weston, Maison and Madden Stephens of Trinity, Texas.He was the great-grandfather of four beloved grandchildren, Addison and Harper of North Augusta, and Coleman and Caleb of Dexter.They were a mutual admiration society, and he experienced great joy in his role as their "Poppa-Doppa."
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a step-daughter, Cecilya Walden and a grandson, Corey Luke Walden.
James Daniel's work career centered on operating the "big rigs" on commercial construction sites.He spent thirty-five plus years experience in the petro-chemical and heavy industrial environment, on both new construction and shutdown / turnaround projects.He operated cranes up to 650 tons, and was frequently requested as a operator throughout the United States.He was known as an ACE-certified operator, and was last employed by Buckner Steel Construction & Heavy Lift Cranes of Boulder, Colorado, with his last project being Belews Creek Steam Station, a coal-fired electric generating facility.
James was a soft-spoken man who was kind and generous to everyone he knew.He was dignified, fun-loving, and an entertaining storyteller.His grandchildren summed him up with a tee-shirt given to him this past Christmas, stating "Papa – The Man, The Myth, The Legend."
The family states a memorial service for Mr. Stephens will be held at a later date.
