Jimmy Wilcox, 74, of Hawkinsville, Ga. died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Westview Baptist Church in Hawkinsville, Ga.Rev. Freddie Rhodes and Dr. Robert Woodall will be officiating.Visitation will be Monday evening at Clark Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Orange Hill Cemetery.
Born in Pulaski County, Jimmy was educated in the Hawkinsville Schools and then received the degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia.He served in the U. S. Navy as Communications Officer aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Randolph.
His career included several years in Pulaski County as ASCS Executive Director after which he was promoted to regional director in north Georgia where he lived in Hall County.After he retired he returned to the land he loved in Pulaski County.He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Wilcox, Sr. and Nell Bembry Wilcox, his mother's parents, Mary Nancy Buchan Bembry and Robert Brown Bembry, his father's parents, Stella Lee Daniels Willcox and James C. Willcox.
He was an active member at Westview Baptist Church until his illness and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Opal R. Wilcox of Hawkinsville, Ga.; Stepsons, Archie Thompson of Perry, Ga. and Tony (Gini) Thompson of Hawkinsville, Ga.; Aunts, Mary Cross of Douglas, Ga., Clara Snow of Hawkinsville, Ga. and Winifred Greer of Cochran, Ga.; four grandchildren and several close cousins.
Honorary pallbearers will be the 1953 Class of Hawkinsville High School and Mr. Wilcox's Sunday School Class.
Pallbearers will be Barry Martin, Pete Martin, Mitch Willcox, Daniel Willcox, Carl Cross, Will McDaniel, Joe Raley and Gary Sharpe.
Flowers will be accepted but donations may be made to Westview Baptist Church of Hawkinsville, Ga.
Clark Funeral Home of Hawkinsville, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.
