With great sadness, we announce the passing of John Wayne Battles, 53, of Hawkinsville. He passed on October 26, 2022, at Navicent Health Macon after an extended illness. He was the son of Wayne and Janice Battles and father of Caleb Battles and his wife Brooklyn, all of Hawkinsville. He was a member of Haynesville Baptist Church and loved his church family. John was employed by Boeing as a sheet metal worker and later by Robbins Air Force Base as a civilian employee. A dedicated worker, he was saddened to retire after a disabling stroke 16 years ago. John will most be remembered for his love for his family, especially his son Caleb. Those who knew him knew of his dedication to his son. Whether coaching his baseball team early on or following him to football games, wrestling matches, and baseball tournaments in high school, John was a fixture in Caleb’s life, always providing guidance and support despite his disabilities. Some of his most proud moments include Caleb’s walk-on acceptance to attend and play baseball for Shorter University, his enlistment into the U.S. Air Force, and, most recently, his marriage to Brooklyn. Not only was he a devoted father, but he contributed so much to the lives of his nieces and nephew. As he is called, Uncle John-John will be remembered as the uncle who was always willing to lend a hug, give advice, or even be the center of the Christmas gathering jokes. His dry wit and ability to “let the kids be kids” will always be remembered by his family. For all these things, John will never be forgotten in the hearts of anyone who has ever truly known him. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilson Dewayne, for whom his son is named. He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Janice, son and daughter-in-law, Caleb and Brooklyn; brothers, Alan (Amanda) Battles of Dawsonville, Wayne (Heather) Battles of Hawkinsville; and nephew and nieces, Will and Kathryn Battles of Dawsonville, and Hope, Kaleigh, and Kelsey Battles of Hawkinsville. He is also survived by a special daughter and son-in-law, Patience and Issac Dominick, and their daughter Adeline Dominick of Tuolumne, California. Arrangements are to follow.
