John Wesley Dawson, Jr. passed away at his home early Sunday morning, May 21, 2017. John was born in Pulaski County on March 23, 1948. He was the oldest child of John Wesley Dawson, Sr. and was raised in the Baptist faith at Blue Springs Baptist Church. He was married to Kay Slade Dawson on May 12, 1968. They were married for 49 years, living on the Dawson family farm. On May 19, 1971, John and Kay were blessed with their only child, Deena.
John graduated from Hawkinsville High School in 1966 where he was well liked by his classmates. He attended Middle Georgia College after high school, but farming was always in his blood. He continued to farm throughout his life. Over the years he and his brothers and father won numerous awards for their outstanding farming practices. He truly was a steward of the land.
John is survived by his wife Kay Slade Dawson, daughter Deena Roberts, son-in-law Chris Roberts, grandson John Terrell Roberts, brother Gary Dawson (Susan), brother Rodney Dawson (Gloria), and sister Kathy Rattray (Jack), and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father John Wesley Dawson, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Hawkinsville, Georgia on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 3p.m. with Dr. Don McClung, Rev. Dr. Gary Abbott and Mr. Tommy Dawson officiating.Burial will be in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 12:30p.m. to 2:30p.m. in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary.
