June Kerron Miller 84, passed away on March 17, 2023 in Rome, Ga. She was born on February 10, 1939 and lived much of her life in Hawkinsville, Ga.
June attended Tift and Georgia Colleges for her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She initially worked as a county home demonstration agent before accepting a position as an elementary school teacher. She completed her master’s degree and took a position as librarian (media specialist) at Pulaski County Elementary school in Hawkinsville. She retired after 29 years in the school system and is recognized around Hawkinsville from the kids that went through the school and had her as their librarian.
June had a passion for family history / genealogy and for 30+ years researched many family trees. She would travel around Georgia visiting court houses and libraries, taking notes and documenting. She collaborated with her cousin Ernest Hall on this research and attended and organized family reunions for many years. She was a member of The Colonial Dames 17 th Century and Daughters of the American Revolution.
June was a member of Hawkinsville First Baptist Church and donated her time to build the library there and manage it.
June was a member of Hoe and Hope Garden Club in Pineview and the Hawkinsville Garden Club. She was a multi-year secretary / treasurer for the garden club.
June loved books and would share this with others. For years, and as long she could, she sent books to young family members as they grew. She also loved crafting and had many hobbies arounds this.
She was proceeded in death by her father Walter John Miller Sr, mother Mary Elizabeth (Hall) Miller, brother Walter John Miller Jr and sister-in-law Patricia Ann (Turner) Miller.
She is survived by her nieces / nephew Christina (Tim Troyer) Gibson, Matt (Maren) Miller, Betsy Miller and great-nieces / great-nephews Christopher Gibson, Katherine Gibson, Bonnie Miller, Will Miller, Ben Miller, Emmalin Hobbs and longtime friends Connie Fleeman, Joan Tripp, and Alice Turner.
Services will be held in Clark Funeral Home, Hawkinsville, Ga on Friday, March 24 th with visitation from 1:00pm to 1:45pm and memorial service at 2:00pm. Interment will follow in the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on Vienna Highway, Dooly County.
