Larry Randolph Harper, age 73 of Hawkinsville, Georgia died October 2, 2016 at Tift Regional Hospital in Tift County. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the First Methodist Church in Hawkinsville, Georgia at 2p.m. with Rev. Paula Lewis, Rev. Richard Soper and Rev. Dr. Nita Crump officiating. The family will greet friends from 6p.m. to 8p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Clark Funeral Home.
Larry was a native of Macon, Georgia and has lived in Hawkinsville since 2003. He graduated in 1961 from Lanier High School. Mr. Harper was a member of the Hawkinsville First Methodist Church and a retired Army Veteran having been the Comandant of the NCO Academy at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Hawkinsville Rotary Club having been the past president. Larry was the legislative director of the Georgia NARFE federation and the past president of the Middle Georgia Military Affairs Association. He was also a lay speaker for the Methodist Church. Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin Harper, Ellis Harper and Robert Harper. Flowers are accepted or donations to the Hawkinsville First Methodist Church or the Methodist Childrens Home.
Mr. Harper is survived by wife, Lynn Harper of Hawkinsville, Georgia; mother-in-law, Evelyn N. Towson of Hawkinsville, Georgia; daughter and son- in- law, Ranae (Donnie) Mitchell of Gray, Georgia; sister-in-law, Peggy Harper of Macon, Georgia; two grandchildren, Mitch and Ariel Mitchell; one great granddaughter, Harper Mitchell and several nieces and nephews.
