Melva Gilbert Skipper, 89, of Hawkinsville, made her final transition on the early morning of October 3, 2024. Born to Idus Brown and Willie Frances Gilbert on April 25, 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Morgan Skipper; her three brothers, Ralph, Willie B and Clyde Gilbert; her two sisters, Elizabeth Davis and Hildred Goebel; her two nephews, Ronald Gilbert and Brock Goebel; her one niece Sallie Goebel Berry.
Melva was a homemaker. She enjoyed caring for her two children and cooking daily meals. Baking sweets and sewing were two of her favorite hobbies. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville where she kept the nursery Sunday and Wednesday nights for many years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Karen (Terry) Sanders of Perry and Carolyn Yearty of Cochran; three granddaughters, Kayla (Trey) Dykes of Cochran, Christine (Stephen) Calhoun and Caroline Sanders of Perry; one grandson, Thomas Yearty of Dudley; three great grandsons, John Morgan and Tucker Dykes of Cochran and Will Calhoun of Perry.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Orange Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends and family following the service.
Her heart of this world may have failed but her spirit was stubbornly strong:
