Meredith Henry Cheek, 86, passed away on April 19, 2009.He was born on June 22, 1922, in Laurens, South Carolina as one of twelve children to Robert Spears and Clifford B. Cheek.He grew up in Browndale and later made Hawkinsville his permanent home.

With pride and honor, Meredith served his country in the U. S. Air Force for 23 years as Chief Master Sergeant.After retirement he embarked on a successful career in civil service at Warner Robins Air Force Base and retired again in 1965.He was a veteran of WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Conflict.

Meredith was a devoted and active member of First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville where he served as Sunday School teacher and as a deacon for numerous years.His faith in Christ guided him in all that he did and was transparent to all who knew him.Meredith was an honored member of the Mount Hope Masonic Lodge #9 for over 50 years.He was also an active member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE).

Meredith's loving wife, Polly, of 60 years preceded him in death on January 17, 2009, as well as his parents and ten brothers and sisters.

Meredith's memory will forever be treasured by his two daughters, Rebecca A. Cheek of Alpharetta and Dee Dee Hicks and son-in-law Dr. Stuart Hicks of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and grandson, Michael Hicks, attending St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine.Meredith is also survived by his sister, Virginia Buchan and husband, Ted and brother, Franklin Cheek and wife Patricia and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be April 21, 2009 from 6:30 until 8:30 at Clark Funeral Home in Hawkinsville.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville with Dr. Don McClung officiating.Burial with military honors will follow in Browndale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville.

Clark Funeral Home of Hawkinsville is in charge of arrangements.
