Michael Lamar Goslin

April 19, 1946 — June 22, 2022

Michael Lamar Goslin, born April 19, 1946, age 76, passed away at Dodge County Hospital on June 22, 2022. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York, to Mary Louise (Lamar) and Carroll George Goslin and was raised in Hawkinsville where his fondest memories were made with his Buchan cousins on Chicken Road, at the Jackson Street house, and eventually on Mansfield Drive after his mother married his dear stepfather John Thomas Woods. Preceding Mike in death were his parents, his very special in-laws Anolia (Bridges) and Clarence Preston Hurst, and his first cousin Bob Lamar.

Mike graduated with highest honors from Hawkinsville High School in 1964 where he played football and golf, including playing on the 1962 South GA championship team and for Coach Bobby Gentry. He remained a devoted fan of the Red Devils for life as well as the Atlanta Braves and college football. He received two degrees from Middle Georgia College and attended Georgia Southwestern University and Georgia Tech. He married the love of his life, Linda Joye Hurst in 1968, and they settled in Hawkinsville where they raised two daughters. He was employed by Medusa Cement Company (Cemex) in quality control for 31 years and was an Air Force Reservist from 1967-73. Mike was a member of Hawkinsville First Baptist Church since 1957, where he was baptized, married, and served on the Deacon Board. He served as an elected member of the Pulaski County school board from 1991-96. After retirement, he became a licensed insurer and financial planner for MetLife and Primerica and worked for the Dooly County Justice System.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Linda, his daughter Ginger Clare (Goslin) Martin and her husband, whom he considered his son, Christopher Metz Martin, his daughter Betsy Lynn Goslin, three grandchildren- his fishing buddy Grantson Metz Martin (granddaughter-in-law Sarah Caitlyn DeLoach Martin); his only granddaughter and namesake Wellsley Michae Martin (Trey Bowen, fiancée); and his favorite little buddy Dash Preston Berg; his wonderful sister, Mary Carroll Goslin Tribble (William Orr Tribble, deceased), nieces, Gena DeVue Tribble (Tom Gambill) and Jennifer Barton Tribble Treiber (Peter), great niece, Maia Louise Tribble Gambill, brother-in-law, William Preston Hurst (Myra Jane Halstead Hurst), nephews, Adam Lee Hurst (Audra), David Halstead Hurst (Cindy), Preston Kilby Hurst (Kimberly), his first cousin, Beth Lamar Monfort (C.E.), dear Goslin cousins in New York and other parts of the country, his best friend since age 4, Harris Goss (Jane), and many longtime friends in Hawkinsville who remained loyal throughout his 12-year Parkinson’s battle. After living on Anderson Road in Hawkinsville for 53 years, Linda and Mike moved to Houston Springs 55+ community in Perry in March 2021 where they enjoyed forming new friendships.

Mike liked gardening especially growing tomatoes, talking farming, playing golf, cards, and pool through the years plus boating, camping, and skiing at Lake Blackshear. He loved the Hawkinsville Antique Mall. He had an especially sharp head for finance and enjoyed watching business shows and following the stock market. A music aficionado, he played all genres loud and recalled a trip with his family to Memphis, Tennessee as his favorite vacation, where he fully embraced Beale Street and The Blues clubs.

The family sincerely thanks all the friends, family, medical staff, and Clark Funeral Home for their many acts of kindness. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2022, in Hawkinsville First Baptist Church sanctuary officiated by Rev. Dr. Donald McClung with visitation and refreshments in the social hall immediately following. Honorary pallbearers are Adam Lee Hurst, David Halstead Hurst, Preston Kilby Hurst, Thomas Charles Gambill, Heinz Peter Treiber, Robert Gainer (RG) Lamar JR, Benjamin Christopher Berg, and Bradley Trey Bowen.

Private burial will be at Powers Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted. Donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Hawkinsville, or Powers Cemetery Fund at Sun Mark Community Bank.
