Myrtice Shadix Horne, 85, of Hawkinsville, Ga. died January 16, 2012 in Houston County.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Clark Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Gary Abbott and Dr. Don McClung officiating.Burial will be at Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.
Myrtice Horne was a native of Eastman, Ga. and a member of the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church.Mrs. Horne was a charter member of the Hawkinsville Chamber of Commerce, Business and Professional Women's Club and the Women's Council in Real Estate.She served as an advisor to two Georgia Governors and Georgia Representatives on Real Estate.She was the first woman on the Board of Directors of Southern Trust Insurance Company.She and her husband, Bud, built the original Steakhouse, then went in the automobile business and real estate business for 40 years.Mrs. Horne was a real estate broker and owner of Key Realty and Appraisal Company in Hawkinsville, Ga.Myrtice spent most of her professional life in service to others, yet her family was the joy of her life.Mrs. Horne was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Horne; parents, James and Ann Shadix and three brothers, Ostel, Durell and Johnnie Shadix; sisters, Ruby Hardy and Ruth Walker.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Horne Spivey of Hawkinsville, Ga.; granddaughter, Janna Popwell Simmons (Brian); great-grandchildren, Brianna and Braden Simmons, all of Hawkinsville, Ga.; sister, Gladys Coody of Eastman, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Ouida Brown (Deward) of Dublin, Ga., Jean Alligood of Macon, Ga., Bobbie Hogg of Hawkinsville, Ga. and Fay Mullis of Warner Robins, Ga. and brother-in-law, Ray Horne of Warner Robins, Ga.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church Building Fund, 155 Broad Street, Hawkinsville, GA 31036.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at Clark Funeral Home in Hawkinsville, Ga.
