Nellie Dixon Powell Coley of Hawkinsville, age 94, died January 17, 2021 at Home Senior Living In Cochran Ga..The daughter of William Clifford and Nelle Dixon Powell, she was born in Woodbury, Georgia, lived in Cochran from 1948 until moving to Hawkinsville in 1965. She was predeceased by her husband, James (Jumbo) Coley, a grandson, T.J. Johns, and her parents, brothers and sisters.
For 15 years she and her husband ran a dairy in Bleckley County. Mrs. Coley was retired from the Georgia Department of Human Resources (Family and Children Services), Pulaski County, after 24years of service. She was a member of the Hawkinsville First United Methodist Church, having taught, on a rotation basis, the Lucille Adams Sunday School class for a number of years. She served on the Hawkinsville Pulaski County Arts Council Board of Directors, was a past vice president and served as co-chair of the Volunteers for HPCAC. She was a past regent, recording secretary and treasurer, chair of many committees, and current member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Hawkinsville Chapter. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Wilcox Rifles Chapter. She was a member of the Taylor Regional Hospital Auxiliary and several historic societies. She was always willing to help others and the animal world.
Mrs. Coley is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Celeste and Cal Johns, of Hawkinsville. She was especially close to nieces Betty Anne Wilder of Sneed, Alabama and Debbie Coley Reinke of Louisville Kentucky and special caregivers Jean Spivey and Sarah Coley, both of Hawkinsville.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens in Bleckley County with Reverend Jack Varnell officiating. Friends and family may remain in their cars where Cal and Celeste Johns will speak to them if weather permits. A PA system will be used and a printed program will be provided. The service will be recorded and available to view under the photos & videos tab of Mrs. Coley's tribute on Clark Funeral Home's website.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the T. J. Johns Memorial Scholarship Fund public charity at 29 Pine Level Drive, Hawkinsville. Mrs. Coley proudly served as secretary for this Trust fund from its beginning in 1993.
