Olene Young Slade

Mrs. Maggie Olene Young Slade, 95, of Hawkinsville, Georgia died Saturday October 1, 2022 at Hazel Colson Hospice in Perry, Ga.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Clark Funeral Home with visitation to begin from 1:00 p.m. until 1:50 p.m. before the service.  Dr. Don McClung will officiate.  Burial will be in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens in Cochran, Georgia.

Mrs. Slade was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but moved back to Hawkinsville at the age of 5 years old.  She was a member of the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School class.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Hawkinsville Garden Club.  Olene was best known around town for being a substitute teacher at H. H. S.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur Hugh Young and Evelyn Buchan Young; her husband, Joseph Oscar Slade, Jr.; daughter, Janice Dianne Slade Foley; two sisters, Rose Young Burch (Don) of Macon, Ga. and Carol Young Howard (Milton) of Sims, S. C.

Survivors include her daughter, Debra Jolene Slade of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Betty Jo Smith (Charles) of Cochran, Ga.; two grandchildren, Farrah Dianne Foley and Christopher Tod Foley of Canton, Ga.; sister-in-law, Edith Slade Nelson of Hawkinsville, Ga. 21 surviving nieces and nephews.
