She was born on February 8, 1906, in White County near Cleveland, Georgia, coming to the Hawkinsville area in 1917.She was the third child of eight born to John Frank and Mattie Trotter Barrett, all of whom have preceded her in death, the last being her beloved sister, Lillie Mae Owens, dying in 2000.Also preceding her in death were her husband, James E. Owen, in 1987, her son, James E. Owen, Jr., in 1995, a granddaughter-in-law, Laurene Stanley Miller, in 1999, and hermuch loved son-in-law, Joe Miller, in 2008.
While visiting with the Barrett family when fourteen-year-old Pauline's mother died in 1920, a young man saw Pauline holding the youngest child in front of the fireplace. Many years later he told his daughter that he then thought:"That's the girl I'm going to marry."In 1928, after having secured employment with the Hawkinsville Post Office as a city letter carrier, Ed Owen did just that.In 1935 they bought the house at 617 Martin Street, where they raised their two children, Ed, Jr.and Ann.This was Pauline's home until 2005 when she and Ann moved to Acworth along with Joe, Ann's husband, to be near family.
Pauline is survived by her daughter, Ann Owen Miller, three grandsons and their wives;Philip and Marilyn Miller of Gainesville, TX,Steve and Cherie Miller of Acworth, GA, and Richard and Angela Miller of Bakersfield, CA., nine great grandchildren;Joe Miller of Dallas, TX, Andrew Miller of Acworth, GA, James Miller (Jordan) of Hallsville, TX, Benjamin Miller of Woodland Hills,CA, Robbie Ann Miller of Dallas, TX, David and Paul Miller of Acworth, GA, Danielle and Melanie Miller of Bakersfield, CA, and one great-great grandson, Jacob Miller of Hallsville, TX.Also surviving are step great grandsons Steve, Josh and Mark Ewings of Emerson, Cartersville, and Acworth, respectively.Other survivors include special niece and caregiver, Joyce Owen Giles; nieces Hellen Barrett Pennington and Linda Fay Barrett Collier; nephews Telford Barrett, Jr. "Bucky" and John Barrett "Johnny".Also surviving are those special folks who came up to spend her last few birthdays with her, Don and Starlette Sinyard, Hope Dow, Debra Hartley, Lenora Rickerson, Joyce Giles and Brenda Wilson.

At the time of her death, Pauline was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who loved her home of 70 years and seldom ventured far from it until it became necessary to leave to be near family in 2005.Whether one knew her as Mrs. Owen, Pauline, Polly, Aunt Polly, Grandmama or Granny, she will always be remembered as a special lady who lived out her faith and unselfishly gave of herself to others, whether it be family, friend or neighbor.
