Pauline Melinda Rissling Cheek "Miss Polly", 83, of Hawkinsville, Ga. passed away on January 17, 2009 at her residence.Family visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home.A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 at Browndale Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Don McClung officiating.
Polly was born in Denzil, Saskatchewan, Canada on May 12, 1925 to the late John and Elizabeth Rissling.She attended business college in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.She later met and married Meredith Cheek who was stationed in Edmonton with the U. S. Air Force.When Meredith retired from the Air Force in 1965, the Cheeks made Hawkinsville their permanent residence.Polly had been employed by Guy Lumber Co. and the City of Hawkinsville.She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she had been involved in various activities.Polly was preceded in death by her parents and eleven of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Meredith; two daughters, Rebecca Cheek of Alpharetta, Ga . and Dee Dee and her husband Dr. Stuart Hicks of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and one Grandson, Michael Hicks, who is attending the School of Veterinary Medicine at St. George University.She is also survived by her sister, Clara Dykeman of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church Building Fund.
