U. S. Navy Chief Petty Officer, Richard T. Sewell, 80, of Hawkinsville, Ga. passed away Friday, August 30, 2019 in the Regency Hospital in Macon, Ga.A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2019 in Orange Hill Cemetery with Dr. Kelly Pritchett officiating.Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home.
Mr. Sewell was a native of Pulaski County, Ga. and a member of Broad Street Baptist Church.He was a retired Navy Veteran.He entered the Navy on January 1956.Richard served 20 years in the U. S. Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran having served 2 tours in Vietnam.The ships that he served on were the USS Alameda County LST 32, USS Intrepid CVA11 and the USS Enterprise CVAN65.Richard achieved many awards including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with Combat Ribbon, 2 Navy Unit Commendation Ribbons, 4 Navy Good Conduct Medals, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, 4 awards Vietnam Service Medal.He was the former owner of R & R One Stop Convenience Store.Richard was a former Volunteer Fireman of the Year in 1988 for the Pulaski County Fire Department.He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Jewell Holmes Sewell; brother, John Sewell and sister-in-law Carol Sewell.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Evans Sewell of Hawkinsville, Ga.; sons, Ricky Sewell, Jr. of Gray, Ga. and Craig M. (Michelle) Sewell of Warner Robins, Ga.; granddaughter, Jessica (Darren) Crews of Hawkinsville, Ga. and grandsons, Aaron Sewell and Payton Sewell.
