Robert G. "Bob" Stone, age 91, of Hawkinsville, Ga. died February 10, 2013 at a local nursing home.He had served many years as general manager of Delta Tire Company of Hawkinsville; three years as manager of the Hawkinsville Harness Horse Track and several years as director of security at Harbor Club in Greensboro, Ga.
Bob was very active in civic and church affairs during the time he lived in Hawkinsville.A life- long Episcopalian, he was a member and past Senior Warden of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Hawkinsville, Ga.He was a member and past Master of Mt. Hope Lodge No. 9 and past Potentate Al Sihah Shrine.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Patterson Stone; son, Robert G. Stone, Jr. (Gerry) of Woodstock, Ga.; daughters, Catharine Elliott (Bill) of Panama City Beach, Florida and Louise Lancaster (Carl) of Hawkinsville, Ga.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; 5 nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Davis Stone; his parents, John Walter Stone, Sr. and Pearl Gunter Stone; brother, John W. Stone, Jr. and sister Muriel Stone Driggers and his granddaughter, Laura Lancaster Grinstead.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Hawkinsville, Ga.The Very Reverend Doctor Gary L. Abbott, Sr. will officiate.The family will receive friends at the St. Luke's Parish House following the service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church capital fund.
