Ruby Lee Moody Gatlin, age 76, of Eastman, Georgia passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Heart of Georgia Hospice in Perry, Georgia.
Ruby was first of all a mother and a friend. Throughout her life she worked at many jobs, but her family and friends always came first with her. When her children, grandchildren or a friend needed her, everything else took second place. She and Charles also cared for several relatives in declining health. Although she is probably best remembered for her work at Planters Bank, she also enjoyed working at Hawkinsville High School as an RVI (Related Vocational Instruction) paraprofessional and in Dr. Reuben Roberts' office. She flowered when she dealt with people one on one. She enjoyed jobs where she interacted with the public.
She loved her community and received awards from United Way for her works. She was instrumental in getting grants for the Arts Council and starting a volunteer program to keep the Opera House open and producing programs. She also enjoyed performing and assisting with productions for the Opera House Players. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in her flowers and sharing plants with friends.
She is survived by her husband, Charles C. Gatlin of Eastman, Georgia; son, Jack Gatlin of Los Angeles, California; daughters, Lisa Gatlin of Marietta, Georgia; Leigh Ann Kelly of Casselberry, Florida and LaRae Gatlin Mullis of LaGrange, Georgia; sisters, Gwen Strickland and Edna Broxson both of Opp, Alabama. She is also survived by five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6p.m. to 8p.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at Clark Funeral Home in Hawkinsville, Georgia. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
