Thomas Glen Herrington, Sr., age 89, of Hawkinsville, Georgia died Friday, February 14, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2p.m. in the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church with The Very Reverend Dr.Gary L. Abbott, Sr. and Dr. Don McClung officiating. Burial will be in Orange Hill Cemetery in Hawkinsville, Georgia.
Mr. Herrington was a native of Fulton County Georgia. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served as chairman of the local Selective Service Draft Board. Mr. Herrington was a former member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6077. He had served as the President of the Hawkinsville Lions Club. He was a member and deacon of the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church. He served on the body of deacons and was a director of Adult 5 Sunday school department. Mr. Herrington taught Sunday school and had been a training union leader. He was also a member of the Jackie Berryhill Sunday school class. He wrote "Precious Moments" by Cypress Knee for the Hawkinsville Dispatch and News.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Glen "Tommy" Herrington, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Fay Herrington of Hawkinsville, Georgia; daughter, Evelyn Herrington of Hawkinsville, Georgia; grandson, Glen Herrington, III and Pam Herrington of Cochran, Georgia; great grandson, William Glen "Wil" Herrington of Cochran, Georgia and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn W. Herrington and Aurelia R. Herrington; wife, Lucille Herrington; sister, Mrs. Tom "Frances" Smith.
Visitation will be Saturday, February, 15, 2014 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. in the Clark Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers will be Sammy Hood, Larry Hood, Bill Slade, John Gibson, Tripp Joiner and Tim Darsey. Honorary pallbearers will be the Romeo Club and the Jackie Berryhill Sunday school class.
