Services for Mr. Walter E. ("Bud") Freeney, 83 years old, of Hawkinsville, Georgia, who died March 27, 2012are to be held at 2p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, at Clark Funeral Home, Hawkinsville, Georgia with burial in Beehive Cemetery, Eastman, Dodge County, Georgia.The Reverend Don McClung officiating.
Mr. Freeney was a native of Macon, Georgia and was the son of George A. Freeney and Mollie Sheffield Freeney, born September 7th , 1928.
Mr. Freeney attended schools in Macon and Byron, Georgia, also, Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia.World War II began in 1941 and he joined the U. S. Navy in 1946 at age 17.
After serving in the U. S. Navy, he returned home and worked for B. C. Moore & Sons in Eastman and was then transferred and became manager of their store in Hawkinsville, Georgia.He then purchased Freeney's Department Store in Hawkinsville which he operated for 40 years.He was also employed as a teacher at Hawkinsville High School for 17 years.Mr. Freeney was a Mason, original member of the Jaycees, member and chairman of the City of Hawkinsville zoning board, member and chairman of the Pulaski County Board of Education, member of the First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville.He was a talented wood crafter and a Red Cross swimming instructor, as well as an avid fisherman and hunter.
Mr. Freeney is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jacquelyn Mullis Freeney; daughter, Sherri Freeney Aaron; son-in-law, Matt Aaron; grandsons, Kristopher Aaron (Clary), Jonathan Aaron (Amanda) and sister, Nannie Mae Bailey.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 29, 2012 from 6-8p.m. at Clark Funeral Home in Hawkinsville, Georgia.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Lowery, Elliot Evans, Chan Mullis, Issac Faulk, Dahl McDermitt and Joe Stevens.
Honorary pallbearers will be E. Gene Powers, Ernest Mashburn, Dean Hattaway, Ray Mixon, Tom Blount, J. C. Hadden, Harold Hailey, Bonny Dixon, John Coley, Sterlin Carr, Mack Morrison and Jerry Lancaster.
In honor of Mr. Freeney's love for his country, several patriotic hymns will be sung during the service.
Flowers will be accepted but donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Clark Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
