Wendell Spencer Dunaway, 81, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at Emory Midtown Hospital in Atlanta.Funeral services will be held Monday, June 20, 2011 at 3p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, 5925 Pinehurst-Hawkinsville Road.Burial will follow in church cemetery.Rev. Ronnie McKenzie, Rev. Jeff Dykes, and Rev. Joe Hughes will officiate.
He was a native of Dooly County, born February 5, 1930, and was a graduate of Pinehurst High School Class of 1946.Mr. Dunaway was a farmer, agri-businessman, and bank board chairman.He was currently chairman of Taylor Regional Hospital Board of Trustees.Mr. Dunaway was a member and deacon of Harmony Baptist Church and served as men's Sunday School Teacher for the past 40 years.Mr. Dunaway was instrumental in the founding of Fullington Academy and Chickasha Oil Mill.He served on the boards of Cotton, Inc., National Cotton Council and Southern-Southeastern.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mary Joyce Coleman Dunaway and one brother, Berner (Elizabeth) Dunaway, sons; Larry (Lynn), David (Beverly) and one daughter, Barbara.Grandchildren, Russ (Rita) Dunaway, Cindy Dunaway, Rebecca Dunaway, Cole (Amy) Dunaway, Matt Dunaway, Christy (Terrance) Grigsby, Kelly (Jon) Graham, Alexandria van Assendelft, Liena van Assendelft, Catherine Spencer van Assendelft, Anders van Assendelft, and 7 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenny.
Visitation will be from 5:30p.m. to 8p.m. on Sunday night, June 19, 2011 at Clark Funeral Home.The family asks donations be made to Harmony Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
