WILSONFARROWCREDLE,JR.
Wilson Farrow Credle, Jr., 68, resident of Hawkinsville, passed away after a valiant 13 year old fight with not one, but two forms of cancer. He could have whipped one with one hand tied behind his back, like Chuck Norris, so God gave him two forms of leukemia to make it a fair fight.
Wilson was born to Wilson and Avis Credle in Savannah, Ga. in 1944.He is survived by wife, Jane; daughters, Sally and Farrow; brother, Olin and grandchildren Valerie, Jonathan, C. R., Jane and May. He had a childhood on the river, jumping off docks and running boats expertly, sometimes without too much regard for tide safety. He received a beloved Corvair for his 16th birthday, andwas proud of the way it could outrun speed limits.
He met his wife Jane on a double date. They were not each other's original partner on that date, but that didn't stop Wilson. They had two daughters that Wilson adored.Years were filled with country clubs and golf, church, golf, assorted pets and bass fishing boats, golf, family, good friends, neighbors, co-workers, golf, wit, lots of laughs and really, really good stories.
He enjoyed financial and career success as a marketing manager and later regional director at Southern Bell/Bell South/AT &T.Later on he dabbled in telecommunications, banking and trading/financial planning and consulting.According to his oncologist, he refused pain meds at a recent inpatient chemo session "because he was still trading."
He also found great personal and civic fulfillment in being a city councilman for Hawkinsville. He was most proud of his work improving blighted areas and bringing fresh and realistic, but also sympathetic and humanitarian approach to civic service. He believed in the power of community solidarity and momentum for positive change.
His greatest legacy is his sense of humor and intellectual curiosity. He did not know boredom. There was always another fascinating concept to wrap his head around, technique to learn, place to discover and joke to repeat. His life was truly the definition of carpe diem and although we will miss him desperately, we're blessed that he's in a better place and he will remain an inspiration to us all.
Funeral services for Wilson will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Hawkinsville with Rev. John Walker and Butch Butcher officiating.Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Greenwich Cemetery in Savannah, Ga.
The family will receive friends at the residence on Thursday and Friday.
The family requests that donations be made to the Pulaski County Christian Learning Center, C/O Rev. Jeff Waters, Broad Street Baptist Church.
Clark Funeral Home of Hawkinsville, Ga. is in charge of the arrangements.
