Woodfin M. Moore passed away peacefully on April 12 at his home on Unadilla Highway in Hawkinsville.
He was born on December 1, 1933 in Tippettville, Dooley County, Georgia to Marshall W. Moore and Ida Mae Conner Moore. He graduated from the eleventh grade at Dooly High School in 1951. Hawkinsville High School added grade 12 in 1952 where he attended and again graduated.
After his second graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, Massachusetts.
Upon returning home he developed Arnold Estates Mobile Home Park on Unadilla Highway and Moore’s Mobile Home Moving Company. He estimated moving over 1400 mobile homes all over the state of Georgia.
His hobby was Nascar auto racing and his most notable win was in 1969 in Swainsboro, Georgia where his little # 12 six cylinder outran a field comprised of all eight-cylinder cars. This car was on display for several months in the Nascar Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, Georgia and now on display in the Swainsboro Racing Hall of Fame. On the 50th anniversary of that win, “Woody” was guest of the Swainsboro Speedway where he and his car was the centered attraction.
His wins over his racing career were many. His passion was winning, no matter what the challenge. In recent years he drove in one of the horse racing events during race week in Hawkinsville and, of course, won. That night he participated in a Nascar race and, of course, won! That was a twice in a day win that he boasted about for years! Then when the new bridge opened, he just “happened” to be the first one to cross the east bound bridge!
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Mavis Frankie Moore, and nephew, Mike Stokes.
Survivors include sons, Matt Moore (Amanda), Mack Moore (Julie), Riley Mack Moore and grandchildren, Kylie, Zack, Gabrielle, Colt Moore and Sister, Nancy Moore Dean/Hunt, nieces, Marsha Hartley, Pam Foreback (Doug), Karen Stokes, and nephew, Pat Stokes (Kathy).
The family will greet friends on Saturday, 10 am at Clark Funeral Home with the service at 11:00am. Burial will follow in the Tippettville Baptist Church Cemetery in Tippettville, Georgia.
